Ruta del Ebro: GR99 - Stage 6

not intend to make an exhaustive description of this route the Ebro recently joined the Mountain Partnership "Suances" I have shared in its sixth stage between Pesquera de Ebro and Manzanedo in the province of Burgos.

Those who have lived many years in the place Burgos brings reminiscences: Orbaneja trips to the Castle, and white cliffs glimpsed fleetingly as we climb the path Carrales port of Santander.

Torrelavega snowing when we left, we continued to snow between Reinosa and Carrales and fall Pesquera de Ebro was laborious at times for coaches that led to the 84 hikers who started this sixth stage of the GR 99 that runs along its more than 1200 Km Ebro margins start playing today in Pesquera de Ebro, silent at that hour of Sunday morning. It's cold but the sun shines elusive fuel only makes us step. In fisheries catches my attention coat of arms and especially the curious legend on the facade of a house. Except for brief stretches of road, when entering or leaving the villages, the route, beautifully marked, runs right next to the river here, and once you have dug a large, leafy bed, gentle runs between beech, oak and gall.
without deviation, we see the tower of the Romanesque church of Hill and soon, on the other side of the stream we spotted the first houses started Villanueva Rampalay. We crossed the river by the old medieval bridge and left his side, we went to Tubilleja that after a short stop left to reach Tudanca, a village that has retained its rural charm with its large green field in which the hens peck and the river seems to have widened in this place to look in your mirror completes the nearby mountain to his bow and group homes and the church.

We took advantage of the place for lunch, and we regret that Village bar does not have coffee and we can not put something hot in the stomach on this cold January morning. At least we picked up strength and we need them soon as they rock walls encasing the river, forcing us to climb a narrow zigzag path with steep closed loop leads to the Portillo del Oso. The effort has its reward. From that point we saw a long stretch of Ebro festooned with green and closely monitored by high limestone walls that fall. From this point there is only down from oaks to reach the river again we headed for Cidade de Ebro and its Romanesque chapel of the Virgen Blanca. The river here has become lazy and forms a sweeping curve. We arrived at Manzanedillo and again after crossing a pontoon Ebro Manzanedo climbed up to our stage. 18.5 km have been easy and pleasant walking, listening to the quiet murmurs of the river and close communion with nature.
